Nicolas has always regarded Bonnes-Mares as one of his finest wines and nothing has changed in the 2008 vintage. Rich and concentrated, with a satin-like texture, this has real presence. Denis Durantou believes 85% to 15% to be the most perfect blend for Merlot and Cabernet Franc and one that he employs in this wine. Deep glossy purple in colour with a black core. Perfumed cherry blossom notes precede a glorious array of dark skinned fruit on the nose with lovely toasted oak notes emerging. Exuberant on the nose, yet refined, this has notes of yellow plum and raisin, as well as a touch of caramel. On the palate, there are notes of grapefruit citrus and greengage fruit, as well as the more complex notes found in great botrytised wines: toffee, dried fruit and candied peel.
