La Creu Alta 2006, Bodegas Mas Alta Priorat
A supreme expression of Priorat, this is a blend of 60% Carinena, including an incredible portion of 100 year old vine fruit, together with old vine Garnacha. Deep, dark, purple red colour. The nose is closed but there is clearly a powerful core of dark chocolate and black forest gateau flavours with a touch of liquorice and subtle balsamic notes. Pure with black cherry and black currant flavours combining with creamy vanilla. Beautifully juicy yet intense palate. The tannins are again incredibly fine and of a melting nature. This is very young, with oak and dark, brooding fruit dominating the minerality which clearly lies beneath. Needs three or four years before it will begin to show its true class. Very high quality. Part of the New Fine Wine Parcel.
Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2008, Maison Roche de Bellene
Nicolas has always regarded Bonnes-Mares as one of his finest wines and nothing has changed in the 2008 vintage. Rich and concentrated, with a satin-like texture, this has real presence. With ripe, firm tannins and a long, complex finish, it is a terrific example of this lovely vintage. Part of the New Fine Wine Parcel.
