Barbaresco 2007, De Forville
Nebbiolo takes it name from 'nebbia', the fog cloaking the hills of Piedmont around harvest time. The village of Barbaresco lies only a little to the north-east of Barolo in Piedmont and produces wines of a similar style and quality. A big, elegant wine of pale colour. Dark cherries and leather with earthy hints, and a rose perfume, a charming, well integrated wine with a long finish. Muscular tannins give the wine a solid backbone. Try this with a fillet steak with mushrooms. The wine will nicely echo the earthy notes of the mushrooms.

Savigny-Lès-Beaune Rouge 1er Cru 2008, Louis Jadot
Made from a blend of fruit harvested from four Savigny vineyards: Les Lavieres, Les Narbontons, Les Vergelesses and La Dominode. Each vineyard's wine is made individually, before being matured in 20% new French oak, then blended to perfection before bottling. Typical of Savigny, this wine is heady and aromatic, with notes of rose petals and beetroot giving complexity to the core of redcurrant fruit. The palate is more robust with savoury, fine-grained tannins. Delicious with cold meat salads or creamy French cheeses.
Barbera d'Asti DOC 2009, De Forville
The Piedmont region of Northern Italy, surrounded by the Alps, is home to Italy's third most planted grape variety - Barbera. Barbera d'Asti has the most vines, with many of the vineyards planted on the lower slopes and in sheltered areas resulting in fresher styles. Intense aromas of red cherries, vanilla, rose petals and spice leap from the glass, with the intense, powerful palate exhibiting an elegant balance of fruit and tannin to a long, smooth and crisp finish. Drinkable now, matched with salumi or antipasti, or aged for up to 6 years. The wine will benefit from being decanted before drinking.
Les Tourelles de Longueville 2007, Pauillac
Whilst this wine may not be available from the Fine Wine Centre please check with your local store for availability. Les Tourelles de Longueville is the second wine of Château Pichon-Baron. It was introduced with the 1986 vintage and around 12,000 cases are typically produced each vintage. The wine is currently built around the plot of Sainte Anne, planted with a majority of Merlot. A deep, purple colour with an enticing nose of strawberry, blackcurrant and fresh roses. Silky tannins give a more 'ready-to-drink' style, packed with toasty vanilla notes and an unmistakable elegance. Well-balanced with a crisp structure this wine will drink well over the next 5-8 years. Drink with roast lamb or game pie.
