Barbaresco 2007, De Forville

Majestic WineNebbiolo takes it name from 'nebbia', the fog cloaking the hills of Piedmont around harvest time. The village of Barbaresco lies only a little to the north-east of Barolo in Piedmont and produces wines of a similar style and quality. A big, elegant wine of pale colour. Dark cherries and leather with earthy hints, and a rose perfume, a charming, well integrated wine with a long finish. Muscular tannins give the wine a solid backbone. Try this with a fillet steak with mushrooms. The wine will nicely echo the earthy notes of the mushrooms.

Made from a blend of fruit harvested from four Savigny vineyards: Les Lavieres, Les Narbontons, Les Vergelesses and La Dominode. Each vineyard's wine is made individually, before being matured in 20% new French oak, then blended to perfection before bottling. Typical of Savigny, this wine is heady and aromatic, with notes of rose petals and beetroot giving complexity to the core of redcurrant fruit. The palate is more robust with savoury, fine-grained tannins. Delicious with cold meat salads or creamy French cheeses.
