Barolo Monprivato 2005, Mascarello

Majestic Wine"The 2005 Barolo Monprivato is a very pretty, harmonious wine endowed with tons of purity in its fruit. All of the telltale aromas and flavors of Monprivato are there – geraniums, roses, spices and flowers – but backed up by quite a bit of heft and body as well... This is a mysterious, seductive Monprivato that will be fascinating to follow. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2035". 94+ points. Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate.

Domaine Sainte Rose 'La Garrigue' Syrah Grenache 2009, Vin de Pays d'Oc

The vineyards of Domaine Sainte Rose cover a total of 48 hectares, with planted vineyards amounting to 33 hectares. They spread from the clay/limestone soils found along the banks of the River Thongue up onto the gravelly schist soils of the plateau. Flavours of the Garrigue such as aromatic thyme with jammy, red fruit and spicy, black pepper, make this a wine of enormous character. It is warm and complex on the nose, rich and ripe on the palate. Superb structure and length allows cellaring for another couple of years but enjoy now with pepper steak.

Barbaresco 2007, De Forville

Barbaresco 2007, De Forville
£12.99

Nebbiolo takes it name from 'nebbia', the fog cloaking the hills of Piedmont around harvest time. The village of Barbaresco lies only a little to the north-east of Barolo in Piedmont and produces wines of a similar style and quality. A big, elegant wine of pale colour. Dark cherries and leather with earthy hints, and a rose perfume, a charming, well integrated wine with a long finish. Muscular tannins give the wine a solid backbone. Try this with a fillet steak with mushrooms. The wine will nicely echo the earthy notes of the mushrooms.
