Red Kidney Beans 2kg.

Red Kidney beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) is bigger beans than most other beans, red as the name implies, and has a floury texture and sweetish flavour.

It is highly proteinous, and is an abundant source of vitamin B1, folate, iron, copper, and selenium; a good source of vitamin B6 and zinc; a source of vitamin B2, niacin, and calcium.



Like crab eyed beans, it is poisonous if eaten raw. It contains an enzyme that needs to be deactivated by rapid cooking within the first 10 minutes on very high heat. This poisonous substance called lecitins, cause the the red blood cells to stick together in what is known as haemoagglutination.



Symptoms of red kidney beans poisoning include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea within 4 hours of consumption of raw or improperly cooked red kidney beans.



Please ensure your beans is thoroughly cooked.



Once cooked, it is a great delicacy in many African dishes.
