Exuberant on the nose, yet refined, this has notes of yellow plum and raisin, as well as a touch of caramel. On the palate, there are notes of grapefruit citrus and greengage fruit, as well as the more complex notes found in great botrytised wines: toffee, dried fruit and candied peel. As is the norm in 2005, dense purple in colour indeed virtually opaque at the centre. Profoundly rich nose with aromas of cassis laced with spices. Sumptuously juicy black fruits palate is amply supported by grippy tannins. Super harmony and style here, a Gruaud with intensity of flavour, purity and all-important freshness. Château d'Yquem 2005, 1er Grand Cru Classé, Sauternes
Slightly closed on the nose at this stage, with subtle notes of white flowers and candied tropical fruits. On the palate, this is supremely well balanced, with rich, unctuous honeyed fruit, balanced by a touch minerality and a deliciously fresh touch. Part of the New Fine Wine Parcel.
