Slightly closed on the nose at this stage, with subtle notes of white flowers and candied tropical fruits. On the palate, this is supremely well balanced, with rich, unctuous honeyed fruit, balanced by a touch minerality and a deliciously fresh touch. Part of the New Fine Wine Parcel.
Ideal conditions for botrytis were challenged by uneven ripening. This latter demanded obsessive attention to detail during the numerous picking passes through the vineyard. Yquem's resources permit such meticulous care and inevitably have resulted in a wine which is of magnificent richness, personality, harmony and persistence. Outstanding. How l'Evangile has blossomed under Rothschild ownership! This is a substantial, chewy pomerol that displays flesh and volume allied to a firm solidity. Concentrated yet sophisticated. A wine with energy and vigour that will keep for many years. Part of the New Fine Wine Parcel.
Deep, near opaque in the glass with mineral, graphite and cool, ripe fruit on the nose. On the palate there is a fragrant note to the dark cherry and currant fruit, with earthy, leafy elements too. More compact than many in this vintage, this has pleasing harmony and gentle direction lent to the fruit by soft, round tannins. A forward and attractive La Mission. Part of the New Fine Wine Parcel.
If ever there is a certainty about assured success in Pomerol it is that Alexandre Thienpont will make a show-stopping wine. VCC 2005 is nothing less than a brilliant wine that exudes class from the first hint of perfume to an extraordinarily long finish. Plump and lavishly opulent, Alexandre has coaxed the most ambrosial flavours from perfectly ripened fruit. A benchmark and a monument to Pomerol 2005. A beautiful, sensuous, silky, pomerol that proves that coaxing flavours from fruit reaps finer rewards than a bullying approach. An 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc assemblage. Unusual, flinty nose, with notes of iron filings, spicy black fruit and new oak. The palate is dense and complete, with blueberry and a long tarry finish. Demonstrates the individuality of this great Grand Cru beautifully. Part of the New Fine Wine Parcel.
From a parcel of 40-year-old vines in this superb 1er Cru, which borders Musigny, this is better than many Grands Crus. With a lifted and heady nose of rosemary, lavender, crushed raspberry and vanilla, the palate is concentrated, with great balance, texture and length. Part of the New Fine Wine Parcel.
Nicolas has always regarded Bonnes-Mares as one of his finest wines and nothing has changed in the 2008 vintage. Rich and concentrated, with a satin-like texture, this has real presence. With ripe, firm tannins and a long, complex finish, it is a terrific example of this lovely vintage. Part of the New Fine Wine Parcel.
An amalgam of red fruits and spices greet the palate of this well-honed and multi-faceted Bonnes-Mares. A Pinot with stunning length and breadth. Pure and driven with exotic notes combining with dark fruits and oriental spices. Layered and complex. Drink 2012 - 2016. Part of our latest Fine Wine Parcel.
Denis Durantou believes 85% to 15% to be the most perfect blend for Merlot and Cabernet Franc and one that he employs in this wine. Deep glossy purple in colour with a black core. Perfumed cherry blossom notes precede a glorious array of dark skinned fruit on the nose with lovely toasted oak notes emerging. The palate is taut and mineral with a core of ripe, dark skinned fruit. With very fine tannins, this is long, juicy, fresh and laden with fruit. Part of the New Fine Wine Parcel.
This is very deep and opaque in appearance, with toasty, black-cherry fruit held in check on the nose. The palate is bold and mouthfilling with a great sense of dimension. There is a serious volume of wonderfully ripe fruit yet with a precision peculiar only to great wines. Layer upon layer of black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, awesome power and refinement in one glass – a very intoxicating style with a mineral, terroir-driven vein. Very fine indeed and an undoubted star of the vintage. Part of our latest Fine Wine Parcel.
Winemaker and Estate Director Jean-Michel Laporte advised that the harvest took place between 17th and 27th September and that the assemblage was 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. As one has come to expect of the property in recent years, they have turned out one of the successes of the commune. Whilst not a heavyweight, La Conseillante displays luscious, attractive fruit, poise and refreshing fruit. Part of the New Fine Wine Parcel.
As is the norm in 2005, dense purple in colour indeed virtually opaque at the centre. Profoundly rich nose with aromas of cassis laced with spices. Sumptuously juicy black fruits palate is amply supported by grippy tannins. Super harmony and style here, a Gruaud with intensity of flavour, purity and all-important freshness. If the property maintains its reasonable pricing policy of recent years, Gruaud will be an excellent buy. Part of our latest Fine Wine Parcel.
Sourced from three distinct parcels with an average vine age of 40 years. Enticing nose of white flowers, mineral and lemon rind, the palate is rounded with hallmark grapefruit acidity and a long chalky finish. Part of the New Fine Wine Parcel.
